“Va Bene” stands out as an exceptionally cost-effective, practical, and widely sought-after open-water 34′ express model. It represents an expanded iteration of the popular Mainship 30 Pilot, an adaptable and budget-friendly Down East cruiser introduced by Mainship in 1998. While the 30 Pilot primarily serves as a day boat, the 34 Pilot’s more spacious interior offers the requisite room for extended cruising adventures. The double-wide helm and companion seats, coupled with port and starboard side lounges, prioritize the comfort of both the captain and the guests. Furthermore, a generously sized  engine access hatch in the cockpit simplifies engine compartment access for maintenance.

Below deck, the expansive main salon features a sizable dinette that easily converts into a double berth, offering ample overnight options. The teak-trimmed, well-appointed galley provides copious storage, an abundance of Corian countertop space, a microwave, cooktop, and a refrigerator with a small freezer. Convenience is key with a slide-out pantry. The cabin houses a spacious head with a Corian-covered vanity, offering abundant storage and a shower. In the stateroom up front, you’ll find hanging lockers and drawers with ample space for gear, whether for a weekend or an extended voyage. The comfortable V-berth ensures a restful night’s sleep.

The 34 Pilot is an economical, safe, and user-friendly vessel, equipped with a single Yanmar 370 HP diesel engine that effortlessly cruises at 15 knots. It boasts features like a bow thruster, generator, air conditioning, a walk-through transom door, and wide side decks. Safety is a top priority, thanks to its long keel, safeguarding the vessel and its running gear from groundings, and its steep plumb bow and gentle rise of the sheer, which provide a smoother ride through head seas.

Accommodations

At day’s end, you’ll welcome the opportunity to retreat to the relaxing living quarters. From the forward end of the helm deck, you will enter through a centerline sliding hatch and down three steps into the large salon with its 6’4″ headroom. A well laid-out galley with Corian counters is to port. Opposite to starboard is a large U-shaped cherry dinette that converts to a double berth if needed for extra guests.

Unusual on a boat this size, there is a private stateroom on a lower deck that  features a V-berth that converts to a double berth with an insert, along with twin cedar-lined hanging lockers and cabinet storage. A full head with shower rounds out the interior package on this well-designed and comfortable Pilot 34.
