MADRUGADOR was the first in a series of custom Long Range Pilothouse Sportfishers built by Buck Smith on an Airex cored fiberglass hull, designed by Ed Month, Jr. This Hull #1 was Buck Smith’s personal yacht and is widely considered the best of the series. In 2006 the cockpit was reportedly extended six feet without sectioning the hull or moving the running gear. To complement the extension, MADRUAGOR’s entire hull bottom was re-sheathed new with five layers of fiberglass and impervious epoxy vinyl ester instead of standard resin. The project was superbly designed and built by German Marine Engineer Klaus Thomas and the bottom hull modification work was done by Ian Biggwither of Hull Tech Marine at the Driscoll Shipyard on Mission Bay in San Diego, CA. The project dramatically improved and strengthened the yacht with many custom features. The latest vessel refit was performed in 2017/2018 with all new marine electronics, audio/visual and many upgrades listed in the specification below. Today MADRUGADOR is a great yacht for entertaining and stands tall as a proven, seaworthy long range Pilothouse Sportfisher, smartly rigged for tournament fishing as well as serious offshore cruising expeditions.
